Dear Families,

What a fabulous community we have!  I want to thank all those who donated non-perishable foods for the “Your Grandmother’s Cupboard” organization.  During the month of December we will be focusing on the spirit of giving, and, clearly the children have great examples of this in our wonderful families.

We’ve got an exciting month in December, including a Holiday Shop (by catalog) for the children, and Mrs. Sullivan’s class will have a “Sing-Along” on Zoom for families of students in the Kindergarten class.   And, during our first week we have Pajama Days to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. (more…)

Dear Families,

In November, we will be focusing on what we are thankful for.  Each classroom will be discussing this with the children, and creating artwork to express the children’s thoughts about what they are thankful for.    We will be sponsoring a page on the Toms River Macaroni Kid website, all about what we have to be thankful for, and we will be submitting our children’s work to display on their web page.   We will use first names only to identify the artwork by each child.  Some classrooms may decide to do a group project.  Plans are in the works.   Please let the office know if you do NOT want your child to participate in this.  They would still do the art project in class, but we would leave them out of the submission to Toms River Macaroni Kid.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. We are thankful for our Peppermint Tree families!

Dear Families,

Our school year is off to a fabulous start: the children are making new friends, learning their new routines, and enjoying the lessons and classroom activities.  We’ve had some beautiful weather, so they are loving the playground, too!

I am excited to announce that the Department of Health has relaxed some of our restrictions, and we are now allowed to have an occasional visitor to enhance our program.  Any visitor must wear a mask, and stay 6 feet from the staff and children, and preferably stay out of doors.  Here are some of the exciting plans coming up, now that we can have visitors:

  • Mr. Scott the Music Man will be here, performing on the playground for the children on the morning of Thursday, October 1st!  Each class will have their own performance time, so they will not mix with children and staff from the other classes.
  • School Portraits are now scheduled for Monday and Tuesday morning, October 5th & 6th.  The photographer will wear a mask, stay 6 feet from our staff and children, and the photos will be taken outdoors.  If the weather is not good, we will have a make up day.    If your child does not attend on a Monday or Tuesday, and you would like to have their picture taken, please call the office to set this up.  The photo sitting is free and there is no obligation to purchase photos.  The proofs will be available within 2 weeks of the photo shoot, and you will be provided information to place your order online if you would like to purchase any photos.

Dear Families,

Welcome to The Peppermint Tree Child Development Center, 2020 – 2021 school year!  We are so very happy to have each and every one of you in our group of families this year.  We are looking forward to an enriching and enjoyable year with your family.  And…we are off to a fabulous start!

During the first weeks of school, your children will be getting to know their teachers, learning the daily routines, meeting new friends and finding out about all the things they can do in the classroom and on the playground.  Starting school is exciting!

Our teachers in the Preschool and Pre-K classrooms use the Creative Curriculum, a proven, research-based curriculum, to guide intentional teaching activities and experiences for each age group.  This is the same curriculum that the Toms River School system has selected for Kindergarten preparation.  The teachers will be letting you know about all their exciting activities as they unfold in the classroom.

The Kindergarten Classroom uses McGraw Hill Reading Wonders and Everyday Math to support their learning.  Mrs. Sullivan tells me she will be sending homework home soon, so you will see some of the work the children are doing each week.

We are proud that our program has been awarded a 4-star rating in the state’s Grow NJ Kids High Quality Preschool Rating System.  We know your children will benefit from the engaging activities we have in store for them!

We like to make sure you know what is happening at school, so each month you will receive this newsletter from me to keep you updated on overall school news at The Peppermint Tree. I post the monthly newsletter on our website (  for your reference anytime.

We will be emailing you each month with a link to the newsletter rather than giving you a paper newsletter. We would like to save paper where we can.

While we are unable to have our usual community visitors and family events at this time, we will be sure that the children continue to gain a variety of experiences and knowledge through their classroom and playground adventures.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to give us a call at the office: (732) 929-2500. (more…)
