April is here and we are “Springing” into action at The Peppermint Tree, both in the classrooms, and in our community! We are participating in “The Budding Artists” art show at The Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch which will be on display from April 8th – April 29th. (Please understand that there is not enough room in the display to show art from every student in the school, and some children have chosen to bring art home instead of submitting their work for the art show. Once the display is up, we will send a note home in your child’s backpack if their work is hanging in the Toms River Library.)
Our staff will also be participating in the Ocean County Children’s Festival event, Saturday, April 13th, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Toms River Library. We hope you can attend: This is a FREE family event that requires no advance registration. The theme is “Full STEAM Ahead to Celebrate Children”, and will offer lots of family friendly Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) activities, as well as information and entertainment. There will be a “Mad Science” presentation as a finale to the festival, from 11;30 a.m. – Noon. This will also be a great opportunity to view the artwork we, and other preschools in Ocean County, have on display in the library.
We hope your family can join us!
Sincerely, Valerie Frost-Lewis, MS.Ed. Owner/Director
Soccer Shots is returning to Peppermint Tree for a Spring Soccer Session –Don’t forget to sign your child up! Go to the web link below and click on “Enroll at a Site”. First Class is Thursday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m.
This is an optional activity (Thursdays at 2:00 p.m.) you may choose to sign your child up for. Many children have enjoyed this class over the years: children learn soccer skills, as well as a lesson on character during each class. The classes offer a fun, non-competitive atmosphere. Classes are taught outdoors by a soccer coach from “Soccer Shots” on The Peppermint Tree grounds. For more information and to register for Soccer Shots, go to:
My Parent and Me Music & Movement Class, Saturday, April 6th, 10:30 a.m. Feel free to “Drop In”!
Miss Val teaches this family class for infants, 2, 3 and 4 year old children with an adult (or two). I have been holding these classes about once a month on a Saturday. There is no long term commitment, and no advance registration required. (Although an RSVP is not required, I do love to know who is coming so I can plan for your child’s age and interest.) The cost is $5.00 per person, so one child and one adult is $10.00. This class is open to the public. I will also hold tours of the school after the class, for anyone new to the school. Here is a link to more info. https://www.facebook.com/events/1901364483300706/

Egg Hunts and Egg Dyeing
We will be having Egg Hunts and Egg Dyeing in all classrooms April 15th-18th. This will be a fun week! We are asking families to send in a special healthy snack to share with the class that week, to add to the fun.
Spring Break: We will be CLOSED on Friday, April 19th, and we are open for CHILD CARE ONLY for Monday – Friday, April 22nd-26th.
As a reminder, when we are open for “child care only”, we are expecting only those children who follow the “Peppermint Tree” calendar. If your child follows the Toms River School system calendar, and you need child care during the Spring break, please call the office so we can add the day(s) needed to your child’s schedule, on a space available basis. If your child follows the Peppermint Tree calendar, and will NOT be attending that week, kindly let us know so we can plan appropriately. Thanks, and happy Spring!
Upcoming in Early May: Free Hearing and Speech/Language Ability Screening Offered – Friday, May 3rd, 9:30 a.m.
On Friday, May 3rd, we will have a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist from Children’s Specialized Hospital here at Peppermint Tree, beginning at 9:30 a.m. to perform Hearing and Speech /Language ability assessments. A permission slip will be sent home. We ask that all families return it to let us know whether or not you want the screening, that way we know you have seen it and considered this opportunity. If your child does not attend on a Friday, you are welcome to bring your child in for the assessment.
Registration for School Year and Camp–save your child’s spot!
Registration is continuing for both the Summer Camp and the 2019-20 school year program. There is limited room for both sessions, so please register quickly. And, remember that enrollment in summer camp does not automatically guarantee a space in the Fall program (or vice-versa). Each year, you must register your child separately for each session to reserve your space in our program.
Summer Camp 2019 – VERY LIMITED Space is still available. Please call the office to review availability.
We are excited to announce that camp is very close to being full, and we have so many fabulous activities planned. If you have not yet reserved a spot for your child, please call the office right away to find out what space may be available for the schedule you would like. The Peppermint Tree Summer Camp Program is available to children who are 2.5 years through Fifth Grade graduates. We are planning lots of fun trips and activities, so we hope you’ll join us! Our Camp Director is Mrs. Carol Sullivan.
Before and After School Enrichment Program
Both Cedar Grove and East Dover Elementary schools transport to us, and we provide an engaging, social, creative and fun program for school age children before and after school. Please contact the office for more information.

Thank you to our friends at Lucky Leo’s in Seaside Heights for holding a fundraiser event at their fun, kid-friendly, fabulous arcade. Mark your calendar now, and watch for more details as we get closer. Thank you in advance for your support! - If your child has any other schedule than 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., please be sure to sign your child in and out on our sign in/out sheet every day. (Children who attend 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. do not need to sign in/out, as they often use “the line” and don’t come into the building. The teacher takes attendance at 9:00 a.m. each day, to record attendance for these children.)
- Please check your child’s back pack each day for notices, their projects, and to clean out lunch items the children may have left behind.
- Please Label all spring jackets & lunch boxes.
- Send in new seasonal change of clothes for warmer weather. Dressing in layers is helpful with the changeable Spring weather.
- Please remember that the children need to wear sneakers to school in order to be allowed to play on the climbing equipment on the playground.
- Send in your “BoxTops for Education” Thank you to Kristen Bernstein who manages our BoxTops effort!
