Dear Parents,

May is here and we’ve got a lot of exciting and memory-making experiences in store for your family!

Open House Ice Cream Social, Monday, May 4th, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

You won’t want to miss being here on Monday evening, May 4th, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for our annual OPEN HOUSE ICE CREAM SOCIAL.  It’s going to be a blast with Mr. Scott the Music Man performing, The Fun Bus,  and Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundaes, the whole family is in for an awesome evening!  There is no RSVP form to complete for this event, just come and have fun.  Children, parents, and siblings of all ages are all invited.  It is an open house, so bring your friends, too!

What came first, the chicken or the egg?  Chick Hatching Event starting May 12th!

On Tuesday,  May 12th, we will begin our Chick Hatching event right here on-site at Peppermint Tree.   The farmer will be coming with adult chickens to show the children and to explain all about eggs, chicks and the hatching we will be witnessing over the next two weeks.  The farmer leaves us with 12 eggs in an incubator…then the children will see the eggs hatch and the baby chicks entering the world right before their eyes!  A most exciting experience!  Please plan to stop in during this time to see our chicks!

Mrs. Hamilton’s Class will have A Mother’s Day Tea

On the morning of Thursday, May 7th, at 10:00 a.m., Mrs. Hamilton will have her annual Mother’s Day Tea for her class’ Moms.  (or an appointed “Mom for the day”.)  The children are preparing some nice surprises for the Mom’s so please try to attend if your child is in Mrs. Hamilton’s class!   Please let Mrs. Hamilton know if you will be able to attend.  Even if your Preschool child does not attend on Thursdays, you are invited to this event.

The week of May 18th will be Gardening Week at The Peppermint Tree!

Each class and the after school program will all be planting vegetables in the “Giving Gardens” (the raised beds outside the pool fence).  This garden was made possible through a generous grant from the non-profit organization, Helping Others Grow.  They will be purchasing all of our Spring plants and seeds once again for us.  Thank you Helping Others Grow!

The children will also be planting flowers out in the front of The Peppermint Tree to beautify our school.  Each child will plant one flower plant during the week of May 18th.  The Engo family is donating our flowers to the school this year!!  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Each classroom will be extending the learning from the hands on gardening through classroom discussions, book reading and art projects.  Happy Gardening Week, everyone!

We will also be looking for families to volunteer to come to the school on weekends to water the gardens for us on the weekends.  This is a nice family activity, that will not take very much time, and we will really appreciate your help!.  Mrs. Hamilton will be managing the sign up list for watering, so please see her or send me an email and I will let her know you are interested.  THANKS!

Summer Camp 2015- Register Now!

The Peppermint Tree Summer Camp Program is available to children who are 2.5 years through Fifth Grade graduates. We are planning lots of fun trips and activities, so we hope you’ll join us!

The calendar of activities is now available at our website on the Summer Camp page, scroll down to the bottom: CLICK HERE for the Summer Camp Calendar-then scroll down. Let’s get ready for the fun! Our Camp Director is Mrs. Carol Sullivan. We are offering:

SCHOOL-AGERS CAMP: For kids graduating 1st- 5th grades

JUNIOR CAMP: For kids 2½ years through Kindergarten graduates

Both camps offer new activities each day, like:

  • Games & Sports
  • Scavenger Hunts
  • Nature Activities
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Plenty of choices for everyone, fun for all!
  • Field Trips
  • Enriching & Entertaining Visitors
  • Swimming daily in our on-site pool (weather permitting)

Registration and Graduation

The last day of our school year is Friday, June 19th.  Our Pre-K Graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at the Elks Lodge on Washington Street, at 10:00 a.m.   The Kindergarten children will have their own celebration on the evening of June 10th at Peppermint Tree. More information will be sent home to Pre-K and Kindergarten parents in the coming weeks.  (NOTE: Pre-K and Kindergarten parents:  June’s school tuition payment must be made in advance of your child’s “graduation event”, in order for your child to participate.  Your school tuition balance must be at zero in order for your child to participate in graduation. )

If you have not registered for Summer Camp, then your child’s last day for the school year will be June 19th.

Our first day of Session #1 of Summer Camp is June 22nd, 2015.  That is when the pools will be open and the full Summer Camp activity schedule begins.  If you have not done so already, please register now if you intend to send your child so we can be sure we have spots available for all of our current Peppermint Tree children.

Registrations are flowing in from the general public for both the Summer Camp and the Fall 2015 school program. There is limited room for both Camp and School, so please register quickly. And, remember that enrollment in summer camp does not automatically guarantee a space in the Fall program (or vice versa). You must register your child separately for each session to reserve your space in our program.

Parent Reminder about June Payment

As a reminder, our tuition is annual, broken up into ten equal monthly payments (September through June).  So, please remember that on June 1st, you still pay a full school payment, even though school ends on June 19th.  You have benefited from this when there were five weeks in a month and your tuition did not go up.  This allows both you and the school to budget an even amount each month for tuition.  Any students not returning will have their security deposit subtracted from their their June bill.  Quarter Day students were required to prepay the June payment, so there will be no payment due in June if you prepaid it.

Those continuing with us for camp have their Session 1 payment and camp activities payment also due on June 1st.   As always, we allow a 15 day grace period for the camp tuition, so there are no late fees until after June 15th.  If you have any questions, please call the office at 732-929-2500.

Some families choose to start making payments for camp ahead of time, so when June 1st comes there is not such a burden for them.  Please take advantage of this if you foresee a problem with the extra payment due June 1st.

Attention Kindergarten-To-Be Students:

As you may know, we offer an enriching Private Full Day Kindergarten, taught by Mrs. Sullivan, who is an experienced and certified Elementary School teacher.  We are offering this class to ensure our students receive attention in a small classroom environment, so they can absorb all the required concepts, and have hands on science, and other enrichments to provide an education that they enjoy.  If you are in need of full day care, we offer an extension to the Full Day Kindergarten class.  We are open from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. during the school year.

If your child will be attending public school, and you need before school or after school care, both Cedar Grove and East Dover schools will transport to us. We offer an enrichment program after school which is active, creative, social and fun.  Please contact the office for more information.

Closed for Memorial Day, May 25th, 2015

The Peppermint Tree will be closed for all students and staff on Monday, May 25th, 2015 in observance of Memorial day.

$25.00 Referral Tuition Credit – for each family you refer to Peppermint Tree (once they register)

Is your family enjoying all of The Peppermint Tree activities?  Is your child benfitting from the loving care and enriching education we offer?  If so, please spread the word about Peppermint Tree!  We will reward you, if you do!

“Word of Mouth” is our best form of advertising!  And, we truly appreciate your spreading the word about Peppermint Tree to your friends, family and neighbors.  We offer all of our current families a tuition credit of $25.00 for each new family you refer to Peppermint Tree.  Once they pay their registration fee, we credit your account $25.00.  There is no limit to the number of credits you can earn!  We have one current family who has earned $100.00 in credits! (Thank you!  You know who you are!)

You are Invited to Join the Ocean County Council for Young Children: An opportunity for parents/guardians/grandparents to make connections, find resources, solve issues within the community. (A new program of the NJ Dept. of Children and Families)

Peppermint Tree has already signed on to be a part of our County’s Council for Young Children.  All are welcome!

WHAT IS A COUNTY COUNCIL?  It is a place where parents and community are able to meet to share; offer ideas, take action, and make changes regarding issues in their community. It takes a community to raise a child. Do you want to make a difference in your child’s life? Do you want to impact the life of the children in your community? Do you want your voice to be heard? If so become a parent leader today! Or be part of the council; be involved. Help to make a change.

  • Children should be wearing SNEAKERS ONLY.  For safety reasons, if children wear sandals or other types of shoes they can not be allowed to climb on our equipment.
  • Please check your child’s back pack each day for notices, their projects, and to clean out lunch items the children may have left behind.
  • Please Label All spring jackets & lunch boxes. Even our Kindergarteners often do not recognize their own belongings.
  • Send in new seasonal change of clothes for warmer weather.
  • Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Diver’s classes will be eating lunch outdoors at the picnic tables when ever the weather cooperates. For that reason, we ask that you discontinue sending in items that require microwaving for lunch through the end of the school year.  (Heat ups are still OK for Mrs. Foley’s class and for Kindergarten)
  • Don’t forget to keep sending in your BoxTops for Education.  We will continue collecting them all summer and next Fall.  We just received a check for $55.00 for the BoxTops we all collected this year. We will be spending those funds on new outdoor items for the playground.  Thank you!  And, a BIG THANK YOU goes out to Joanne Engo who has graciously been managing our BoxTops program for us.
