April Newsletter

March 31st, 2015 No Comments

Dear Parents,

April is almost here and we are “Springing” into action at The Peppermint Tree, both in the classrooms, and in our community!  We are participating in “The Budding Artists” art show at The Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch which will be on display all month.  There are both individual and collaborative classroom projects in the art show this year.

Our staff will also be participating in The Children’s Festival, Sunday April 11th, 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. at the Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch.  Please plan to attend:  The Children’s Festival is a FREE family event that includes two awesome shows:  “The Lizard Guys” at 1:30 p.m., and Mr. Scott the Music Man at 3:00 p.m.  There will also be craft activities for the children, story time, Soccer Shots, and music and movement fun!  It’s also a great time to view the “Budding Artists’s Gallery”.  All activities will take place within the Toms River Library.  While not required, you may wish to pre-register at the library, through the following link: www.theoceancountylibrary.org

We hope your family can join us!

I also wanted to announce: Peppermint Tree has won “Best Preschool” in the 2015 Toms River Macaroni Kid Gold Daisy Awards. We are thrilled. Thank you to all of our loyal families and friends who voted for us!! And thank you to our fabulous staff for your hard work each and every day with the children to earn this honor.

Sincerely, Valerie Frost-Lewis, MS.Ed. Owner/Director

Egg Hunts & Egg Coloring will continue through the week of March 30 – April 2

All classes will be holding Spring Egg Hunts and will be coloring real eggs during the week of March 30th.

We will be CLOSED for all staff and students on Friday, 4/3/15.

“Spring Break” is the week of April 6th – We will return for classes on Monday, April 13th.

We will be open for child care only, for those on the “Peppermint Tree” calendar, Monday – Friday, 4/6 – 4/10.    If your child follows the Toms River calendar, and you need child care during Spring Break, please call the office and we can add the day(s) needed to your child’s schedule, on a space available basis.

“Mindfulness” At the Peppermint Tree – Parent Workshop is being Planned, Date TBD

As you may know, our Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten students are enjoying a “Mindfulness” curriculum offered on Thursday and Friday mornings by The Children’s Home Society.  Parent permission is required, however it is a program provided for free due to a generous grant from the non-profit organization “Helping Others Grow”.   We are planning a parent workshop for you, so you can experience the type of activities the children are getting, learn the benefits, and how to continue the experience for the children at home.  We will soon announce the date/time for the parent workshop.

Summer Camp 2015 –  Register Now! – April 1st is the last day to register at 2014 rates.

Registration is continuing for both the Summer Camp and the Fall 2015 school program. There is limited room for both sessions, so please register quickly. And, remember that enrollment in summer camp does not automatically guarantee a space in the Fall program (or vice-versa). You must register your child separately for each session to reserve your space in our program.

Before and After School Enrichment Program

Both Cedar Grove and East Dover Elementary schools will transport to us, and we provide an engaging, social, creative and fun program for school age children before and after school. Please contact the office for more information.

$25.00 Referral Tuition Credit – for each family you refer to Peppermint Tree (once they register)

“Word of Mouth” is our best form of advertising!  And, we truly appreciate your spreading the word about Peppermint Tree to your friends, family and neighbors.  We offer all of our current families a tuition credit of $25.00 for each new family you refer to Peppermint Tree.  Once they pay their registration fee, we credit your account $25.00.  There is no limit to the number of credits you can earn!  We have one current family who has earned $100.00 in credits! (Thank you!  You know who you are!)

Attention Kindergarten-To-Be Students:

Even though Toms River Schools will be offering Full Day Kindergarten beginning next fall, you may wish to consider our enriching Private Full Day Kindergarten, which is taught by Mrs. Sullivan, who is an experienced and certified Elementary School teacher.  This small classroom, full day experience ensures our students absorb all the required concepts, and have hands on science, and other enrichments to provide an education that they enjoy.  If you are in need of full day care, we offer after school enrichment as an extension to the Full Day Kindergarten class.

Our Hop-A-Thon raised $140.00 for Muscular Dystrophy!!   Thank YOU!

Thanks for your participation and support of your child’s effort to help children who are less fortunate.

Square1 Art Fundraiser – ORDERS ARE DUE MONDAY APRIL 13th (If I gave a different date earlier, that was wrong…April 13th is the due date)

By now you should have received the order form/brochure and sheet of stickers displaying your child’s artwork.   Celebrate your child’s creativity and preserve it for years to come!  As I mentioned in a previous email, my mother still has a tile and a dish on display in her kitchen to this day, that have early drawings that I made as a young child printed on them!

Open House Ice Cream Social, Monday, May 4th, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. – Mark Your Calendar!

Mark your calendar for our Annual Ice Cream Social:  Monday, May 4th, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  This is a FREE family event, and you may invite friends as well, as it is an “Open House” event.   Mr. Scott the Music Man will be performing and The Fun Bus will also be here for everyone to experience!  And, of course…make your own ice cream sundaes!  Don’t miss it!

Please join me in welcoming new Assistant Teacher, Lisa Kopischke…or I should say, “Welcome Back”!

“Miss Lisa” joined The Peppermint Tree on Monday, March 30th – but the Peppermint Tree is not new to her.  Lisa was a student at Peppermint Tree as a child, attended Summer Camp for many years, became a Summer Camp CIT (Counselor in Training) during Intermediate School and worked at our Camp during her high school years.  She is now working toward her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education at Georgian Court University, and holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology.  Once completing her current course of study, her certifications will be in Preschool – 3rd Grade Teaching and Special Education.  We are thrilled that one of our students has come back “home” to Peppermint Tree to fulfill her career aspirations to work with young children.

  • New session is starting for Pizza day April – June.  Be sure to sign up!
  • Please check your child’s back pack each day for notices, their projects, and to clean out lunch items the children may have left behind.
  • Please Label All spring jackets & lunch boxes. Even our Kindergartners often do not recognize their own belongings.
  • Send in new seasonal change of clothes for warmer weather.  Dressing in layers is helpful with the changeable Spring weather.
  • Please remember that the children need to wear sneakers to school in order to be allowed to play on the climbing equipment on the playground.
  • When we come back from “Spring Break” we will be eating lunch outdoors at the picnic tables when ever the weather cooperates.  For that reason, we ask that you discontinue sending in items that require microwaving (All classes except Early Learners) for lunch through the end of the school year.  Early Learners can continue to send in items that need heating.
  • Send in your “BoxTops for Education”  Thanks!
