April Newsletter

March 31st, 2014 No Comments

Dear Parents,

April is almost here and we are “Springing” into action at The Peppermint Tree, both in the classrooms, and in our community!  We are participating in “The Budding Artists” art show at The Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch which will be on display all month.  We will send a note home to you if your child’s artwork has been included in our display.

We will also be participating in The Children’s Festival, Sunday April 6, 2:00 p.m. at the Ocean County Library, Toms River Branch.  The Children’s Festival is  FREE family event that includes PROFESSIONAL CHILDREN’S THEATRE production of “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”, a craft activity for the children, and a muffin treat!  It’s also a great time to view the “Budding Artists’s Gallery”.  All activities will take place within the Toms River Library.  Pre-Registration  is required, through: www.theoceancountylibrary.org

We hope your family can join us at the above family friendly events.

Sincerely, Valerie Frost-Lewis, MS.Ed. Owner/Director

Egg Hunts & Egg Coloring Week of April 7th  – Week of the Young Child

All classes will be holding Spring Egg Hunts and will be coloring real eggs during the week of April 7th.  It is also the National Week of the Young Child…so we will be celebrating our precious children by holding these fun activities for them throughout the week.

“Spring Break” is the week of April 14th – We will return for classes on Monday, April 21

We will be open for child care only, for those on the Peppermint Tree calendar, Monday – Thursday, 4/14 – 417.  We will be CLOSED for all staff and students on Friday, 4/18/14.  If your child follows the Toms River calendar, and you need child care during Spring Break, please call the office and we can add the day(s) needed to your child’s schedule.  As a reminder, Monday, April 21 was added back into the calendar as a regular school day as one of our make up days, for children normally scheduled for a Monday.

$25.00 Referral Tuition Credit – for each family you refer to Peppermint Tree (once they register)

“Word of Mouth” is our best form of advertising!  And, we truly appreciate your spreading the word about Peppermint Tree to your friends, family and neighbors.  We offer all of our current families a tuition credit of $25.00 for each new family you refer to Peppermint Tree.  Once they pay their registration fee, we credit your account $25.00.  There is no limit to the number of credits you can earn!  We have one current family who has earned $100.00 in credits! (Thank you!  You know who you are!)

Attention Kindergarten-To-Be Students:

Toms River Kindergartens are only 2 1/2 hour sessions. We offer an enriching Full Day Kindergarten, which is taught by Mrs. Sullivan, who is an experienced and certified Elementary School teacher.  This full day experience ensures our students absorb all the required concepts, and have hands on science, and other enrichments to provide an education that they enjoy.  If you are in need of full day care, we offer an extension to the Full Day Kindergarten class and we will reserve space for before &/or after public school sessions. This will provide public school children with a half day enrichment program from The Peppermint Tree.  Both Cedar Grove and East Dover schools will transport to us. Please contact the office for more information.

Hop-A-Thon raised $634.00 for Muscular Dystrophy!!  Wow!! and Thank YOU all!

This is fantastic!  The representatives from the MDA are so appreciative.  Thanks for your participation and support of your child’s effort to help children who are less fortunate.

Square1 Art Fundraiser – is COMING!

Your children have now completed their art work and we are shipping all the creations to Square1.  They are creating a CUSTOM sheet of stickers for each child with THEIR artwork on it!  You will also receive a custom printed order form to show how your child’s artwork will look on various items you can order, such as refrigerator magnets, mouse pads, water bottles, and so many more choices.  Celebrate your child’s creativity and preserve it for years to come!  As I mentioned in a previous email, my mother still has a tile and a dish on display in her kitchen to this day, that have early drawings that I made as a young child printed on them!  Watch for the order forms and stickers in the coming weeks.  Thanks for your support!

Girls Leadership Institute Program for Kindergarten and First Grade Girls is kicking off April 23rd at The Peppermint Tree

Peppermint Tree is proud to be hosting this important program for young girls and an adult, to help build relationship and leadership skills.  It will run four Wednesday evenings (6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)  in a row.  There are a few spots left in the class, called: “Tools for Sunny and Cloudy Days with Friends”.  To register, or find out more, go to: http://www.girlsleadershipinstitute.org/content/new-jersey-2013-2014-workshops

Reminders:

  • Please check your child’s back pack each day for notices, their projects, and to clean out lunch items the children may have left behind.
  • Please Label All spring jackets & lunch boxes. Even our Kindergartners often do not recognize their own belongings.
  • Send in new seasonal change of clothes for warmer weather.  Dressing in layers is helpful with the changeable Spring weather.
  • Please remember that the children need to wear sneakers to school in order to be allowed to play on the climbing equipment on the playground.
  • When we come back from “Spring Break” we will be eating lunch outdoors at the picnic tables when ever the weather cooperates. For that reason, we ask that you discontinue sending in items that require microwaving for lunch through the end of the school year.
  • Send in your “BoxTops for Education”  Thanks!
