October Newsletter

November 1st, 2013 No Comments

Dear Parents,

We hope you will join us for the three family participation events we are offering in October: On Wednesday, October 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. we invite all parents/guardians and children to our Back To School Open House. Learning Centers will be set up in each classroom so you can see what types of activities your children are enjoying, meet their friends and chat with other parents and the teachers. On Thursday & Friday, October 24 & 25, at 10:00 a.m. we invite Grandparents to join us for our annual Pumpkin Picking Hayride event, which is held right here at Peppermint Tree. And, on Wednesday & Thursday, October 30 & 31 at 10:00 a.m. we invite Parents/Guardians to join us for our annual Halloween Parade. Both events will conclude with cider and donuts on our playground. Children who do not attend on one of the days of each event, may select a day to participate with their class.

We hope to see all of you during these fun events. Let’s have a great October together.

Valerie Frost-Lewis, MS Ed. (“Miss Val”)

KidStuff Book Fundraiser Reminder

Orders and payments are now due. If you have not already purchased or returned the book sent home with your child, please do so ASAP. Thank you for your support. Our fundraisers pay for extra materials, equipment, visitors and enrichments that tuition alone doesn’t pay for.

Pizza Lunch

Our monthly pizza lunch offering will begin this month. There was a sign up form emailed home. The charge is $2.50 for pizza and juice, and you only pay for your child’s scheduled days. Pizza lunch is optional. Please send in the form and payment by 10/3. Our first Pizza Day is Friday, 10/4.

Firemen and Fire Truck to visit

Firemen and Fire Truck to visit to discuss Fire Safety and Prevention on Monday, October 7th – If your child does not regularly attend on a Monday, he or she may attend during the Firetruck visit between 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., to extend our classroom learning on fire safety. And, just to let you know, we also hold fire drills twice per month all during the school year.

Free Eye Screening, October 9th & 10th – Permission forms due back by 10/4/13

The Lions Club is sponsoring free eye screening for our students, with parent permission. The screeners will be here on the mornings of October 9th & 10th. The permission slip will be sent home in backpacks to parents. The permission slip must be completed, signed and returned to your child’s teacher in advance for your child to have the vision screening. Vision screening forms are due back by: October 4th. (If your child participated in our vision screening program during summer camp there is no need to do it a second time.)

Toms River Schools-Closed on Monday, October 14th

The Toms River schools will be closed on Monday, October 14th for Columbus Day. For those of you who are registered for our Peppermint Tree calendar, we are open and we will be expecting your child to attend. But please be advised that every teacher does not work every holiday. We also do not use every classroom. Please prepare your child for these changes. Please use Mrs. Sullivan’s (front/left) door for entrance.

If you follow the Toms River calendar or attend 9:00 – 11:30 (quarter day) we will not be expecting your child. But, if you need child care on this day please call the office and we can arrange to care for your child. You will be billed for the care on a per day basis.

Strengthening Families (SFI)

Our next SFI meeting will be Tuesday 10/22/12 at 6:00 p.m. All staff and parents are welcome to attend. We provide child care at no additional charge during the one hour meeting. We will be reviewing the results of our parent survey and planning new events at our next meeting. Please complete and return the survey, if you have not yet done so. This will help us plan relevant activities for all of us. Thanks.

Accident Report Procedure

Please note that if your child gets a bump, bruise, or scrape, etc., we will note it on our accident log, and ask the parent to sign it at the end of the day. Parents only should sign this log. If there is any bump to the head or face we will call you at the time of the accident, as well.

Extra Clothes are Needed

We are in need of extra clothes to have on hand in case a child needs a change, and we can not locate their own clothes. We need shirts, sweatpants, boys and girls underwear and socks.

Peppermint Tree is now participating in BoxTops for Education! Please support this great opportunity for our school!

BoxTops cash can be used by our school to pay for anything from playground equipment to enriching visitors and activities. There are two easy ways to help us earn money with BoxTops:

  1. Clip and send into school the pink BoxTops for Education seals that are located on many products. Box top coupons can be found on your favorite products. For example, Betty Crocker, General Mills, Pillsbury, Ziploc, Yoplait, and Hefty. For complete list of products, please visit the Box Tops for Education website, www.BFTE.com
  2. Earn eBoxTops for Peppermint Tree when you shop online. All you do is register at: BTFE.COM, and put in our school ID# which is 9673568. You can shop online at over 300 stores like Target, Babies R Us, Walmart, Macys, DSW. Our school earns eBoxTops with each purchase at no additional cost to you. In order to ensure that all purchases are credited to Peppermint Tree, you must start at the Box Tops Marketplace before making a purchase. The website has complete list of stores: BTFE.COM/MARKETPLACE. You can shop at Target, KMart, Macy’s, etc. Please consider shopping through the BoxTops Marketplace when you shop online for the holidays.

Joanne Engo, Kelly’s Mom, has volunteered to be our parent coordinator. Her email address is bbbunnies@gmail.com. She can answer any of your questions about the program, or about the online shopiing with BoxTops.

We will be collecting BoxTops all school year, with a deadline of April 15th, 2014. We need to make that deadline to be issued a check for this school year. Send your BoxTops in all year long. There will be an envelope in each classroom to hold them. A flyer with additional information will be sent home in backpacks soon.
