June Newsletter

Dear Parents

“Time flies when you’re having fun!” And, what a fast year it’s been here at The Peppermint Tree. We hope you and your child have enjoyed our program, and that we will be seeing you in Summer Camp and/or in the Fall.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our entire Peppermint Tree community – our families and our staff for making this a wonderful year for the children. The smiles on their faces as they burst out onto the playground each day tells the story of their year at The Peppermint Tree the best. They’ve had fun as they’ve grown…from learning their colors, letters and numbers, (and our Kindergartners are reading!) to learning how to make friends and respect the adults in their lives. We thank you for sharing your children with us, and wish you a wonderful Summer.

  • Wednesday, June 13th Last Day of School for Peppermint Tree classes.  Your monthly school tuition payments pay for school through June 13th.  If you need care for the 14th and 15th, then you will need to contact the office to sign your child up for mini-camp and additional charges beyond your monthly school year tuition payment apply.
  • Beginning Thursday, June 14th, we will switch to our Summer Hours, which are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
  • June 18th, 2012 – The official first day of Summer Camp!

Tuition Reminder

If your child is attending summer camp, your final school tuition payment and your first camp payment are both due on June 1.

No sandals on the playground, please!

Sneakers are needed to climb on the aparatus, and we want the children to be able to take full advantage of the equipment when they go out to the playground.

Do you have these at home?

  • We are also once again looking for small glass baby food jars.  They will be used during Summer Camp for sand art at the carnival.  If you can wash them and send them in, we’d really appreciate it.

Registration

Registrations are flowing in from the general public for both the Summer Camp and the Fall 2012 school program. There is limited room for both sessions, so please register quickly. And, remember that enrollment in summer camp does not automatically guarantee a space in the Fall program (or vice versa). You must register your child separately for each session to reserve your space in our program.

Attention Kindergarten-To-Be Students:

Pre-K Graduation is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, June 13th.  Please mark your calendars for this festive event!

Toms River Kindergartens are only 2 1/2 hour sessions. We are offering an enriching Full Day Kindergarten, taught by Mrs. Sullivan, who is an experienced and certified Elementary School teacher.  We are offering this class to ensure our students can absorb all the required concepts, and have hands on science, and other enrichments to provide an education that they enjoy.  If you are in need of full day care, we offer an extension to the Full Day Kindergarten class and we will reserve space for before &/or after public school sessions. This will provide public school children with a half day Kindergarten enrichment program from The Peppermint Tree.  Both Cedar Grove and East Dover schools will transport to us. Please contact the office for more information.

Voyagers’ Peace Conference June 22 -23 at Voyagers’ Community School in Farmingdale, New Jersey

I am excited to announce that I will be providing my anti-bullying “Geode Lesson” (see my recent blog post if you don’t know what that is, at:  http://www.pepperminttree.com/blog/) , at the upcoming Voyagers’ Peace Conference “Live, Think, Practice Peace”, June 22-23 at Voyagers Community School in Farmingdale, NJ.  This conference is for families (adults and children) and educators, and I will be providing the “Geode Lesson” in a workshop for young children at this conference.  The conference venue has recently been changed from Asbury Park, NJ to Farmingdale, NJ –so if you heard about this previously, it is the same conference as the one schedule for Asbury Park, with a keynote by Arun Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi’s Grandson.   If you would like more information on attending this conference, go to: http://www.voyagerskids.com/Voyagers/conference.html

I am expecting it to be quite inspiring and memorable.  Hope to see you there.  By the way, if you find that the tickets are too expensive, and you want to attend, you can call the school and they will ask you what you think you can pay, and provide the tickets to you.  They want everyone who wants to be there, to be able to attend.

A few “Thank You’s” are due…

We have had some great “Strengthening Families Initiative” events in 2011-2012, ending with our very fun and well attended Ice Cream Social on last month. Our tireless parent volunteers have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with these events, and I wanted to make sure I thank them properly for all of their hard work and dedication in attending meetings to plan events, and setting up and cleaning up after each event. Our parent volunteers are (in no particular order–hope I did not leave any one out!):  Jennifer and Elvis Raffo, Carol Rolaf, Jennifer and Seamus Burke, Robyn Cardinale, Michelle and Chris Kopsaftis, Maria Caruso, ChristiBeth Palombo, Sandra Lundin, Darnyelle Cmil, Maureen Tevlin, Andrea Gioello, Michelle Wasik and Tiffanie Zacher. Our staff members of The Strengthening Families Initiaitve are Carol Sullivan, Debbie Foley, Meredith Hamilton, Melinda Batelli and Cherie Elmendorf. I thank them for their dedication to the school and the families of The Peppermint Tree. Together, we all make The Peppermint Tree a warm and nurturing environment for the children.
