Full Day Kindergarten at The Peppermint Tree

We are coordinating our curriculum with the Toms River School System, so children will learn what is required to prepare for First Grade. In addition, the children will be given more time to learn the concepts more deeply and to explore them with hands on learning to assure full understanding, not just memorization. Since we will have the full school day, the children will not be rushed and we will be able to integrate many different teaching strategies to reach all learners. The children will also have ample time to play and socialize, which is an important part of their development. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children!

We will be having an early registration for the full day Kindergarten due to the demand for this class. This great new program will begin for the 2011-2012 school year.  Here is an outline of our program:

  • Core academics, taught by a New Jersey Certified Elementary School teacher, based on the Toms River Regional Schools curriculum. (We are coordinating with the Kindergarten Curriculum Supervisor for the Toms River schools, and will assure your child is prepared for First Grade.)
  • Within the full day, we have the opportunity to add in many more hands on activities to deepen the learning of the core curriculum, than can be accomplished in a half-day program.  The children will not be rushed through concepts.  They will have the opportunity for discovery learning and teacher guided learning.
  • The Peppermint Tree Kindergarten program will go beyond the core Kindergarten Literacy and Mathematics curriculum by integrating enriching Science, Social Studies, Music and Art activities into the curriculum to deepen and broaden your child’s understanding of our world.
  • The children will also have ample time to play and socialize both indoors and out, which is an important part of their development.
  • Studies of nature taken right from our outdoor space, based upon the children’s interests, will also be an important aspect of our Science curriculum.
