At The Peppermint Tree, we have a long-standing tradition of creating a community of families to support the development of the young children we serve. We welcome the whole family, not just the child who is a student, and provide a variety of activities and opportunities for engagement with the school. Each teacher holds a family event for their classroom during the school year, such as a Mother’s Day Tea, a Holiday Sing Along, a Family Picnic, etc.   In addition, a school-wide event is offered approximately each month.

Parent input is also welcomed.  Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend monthly meetings with the school director to help plan activities for the school community to enjoy. We are proud to be a part of the National “Strengthening Families Through Early Care and Education” program which provides us the framework for creating programs that strengthen families as well as the children we serve.  (more…)

Thank you!!!

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A COMMUNITY OF FAMILIES AND STAFF COMES TOGETHER!!!

Dear Families and Staff,

I am truly touched by the outpouring of donations we collected for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during our Hop A Thon last week.  I went right to the post office today and mailed our donations to the MDA, because I was so excited!

The $1,000.00 collected is a combination of online donations and those handed in by Peppermint Tree Families and Staff.   As a matter of fact, when counting up the donations today, we were at $968.00 when two staff members decided to get together to put in an additional $32.00 to make our school’s contribution a total of $1,000.00!

Our children learned about disabilities, and about helping others in need, and you set a wonderful example for them by supporting this wonderful cause, which helps children who have this dibilitating disease.

Thank you for making a difference for your children and for children in need who suffer from Muscular Dystrophy.  Together we can do great things!  Thanks for being a part of of The Peppermint Tree Community.

Sincerely,

Valerie Frost-Lewis, MS Ed.  (“Miss Val”)

Research has proven that when the family is involved in a child’s schooling, there is a greater chance for sustained school success throughout a child’s life.  So, we like to provide many opportunities for our families to participate at The Peppermint Tree.

Today, the Early Learners Class had a Family Gathering, where parents and grandparents made Spring Kites with the children, and then they made ice cream treats together, too.

In the Preschool Class today, parents and grandparents came in with their family pets to provide hands on learning to enhance the children’s interest in learning about taking care of animals.

Next Friday, March 15, we invite all of our Families to enjoy our FREE fun “Family Game Night”.  The event will run from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., and it will encompass the entire school building.  Games will be set up in all the classrooms, and parents will have the chance to play them together with their children, and other families, too.  Parents are bringing snacks to enjoy, and each child will get a prize to take home at the end of the night.

On a weekly basis, we offer “My Parent and Me at The Peppermint Tree” Music and Movement classes, held on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m.  You can find out more about this fun class for infants through four year olds, along with a parent or grand parent at: http://www.pepperminttree.com/my-parent-and-me

We hope you will join in all the family fun we offer at The Peppermint Tree!

OPEN HOUSE:  Ice Cream Social, Monday, May 16th 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

We are proud to be a “Strengthening Families” Center. We provide resources, family friendly activities, information and support to our community of families.  We are one of only eight centers in Ocean County that are participating in this national program.  Here is a bit of background on this program: (more…)

Our first ever Family Game Night was a wonderful success! The forty parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles,  children and staff that all came to The Peppermint Tree on Tuesday evening, March 22, 2011 were treated to four classrooms filled with a variety of games set out for everyone to play.   Adults and children alike had a blast playing “Checkers”, “Elefun” “Limbo”, Twister”, “HeadBanz”, “Bingo”, “Hungry Hippo’s”, “Uno Moo”, and many more games. Children played games with their own family members, with their school friends, and with Peppermint Tree staff members. We all mixed it up and had so many laughs. Thanks to all who attended, and a special thanks to the families who loaned us games, brought in treats and helped to plan the event.  Thanks for making The Peppermint Tree such a wonderful community for our children and for all of us!

Many research studies have shown that when families get involved with their children’s school, children have a much better chance of doing well in school both academically and socially. At Peppermint Tree, we enjoy providing you many varied opportunities to participate here, so that you can get to know your child’s teachers, your child’s friends and their families, as well. We also offer an opportunity for you to be a part of deciding upon and creating family activities with our staff on our Strengthening Families committee. We value our families and invite your participation in our school community. (more…)
